MEET THE AUTHOR
FEATURED AUTHOR: ROBIN LYONS
Hi Jacks here! Today SBC welcomes the extremely talented and wonderfully warm Mystery and Thriller author ROBIN LYONS!
Hi Robin, how about we start by GETTING TO KNOW YOU, What GENRE DO YOU WRITE? AND HOW DID YOU START WRITING IT?
Mystery/Thriller. My writing fits somewhere between a Janet Evanovich mystery and a Stephen King thriller.
When I began writing, I floundered a bit deciding what genre and storyline worked best for me. Mystery/Thriller is what I read, so I went with writing what I’d like to read.
When did you say, I’VE JUST HAVE TO WRITE?
I’ve dreamed of writing books for more than twenty years. I didn’t get serious about writing fiction until 2010, after I retired.
What INSPIRED YOUR NOVELS?
I worked in public education for twenty-nine years. It was a great career, but schools do have issues, crime and violence.
Before retirement, I ran for and was elected to the school board in my hometown. Six years into the school board position a beloved school principal and colleague was gunned down in his office. The loss felt by the school district and community was tremendous.
I’d like to think if there had been a security guard or a school resource officer on the campus the day of the shooting, maybe the outcome would have been better. And thus the School Marshal series was created.
Robin, can you please share with us, what is the TITLE OF YOUR BOOK?
I published my debut novel, UNKNOWN THREAT, book 1 in the School Marshal series in December 2016.
Okay, so let’s talk ABOUT THE BOOKS. What should someone EXPECT WHEN READING YOUR NOVEL?
If a reader lives in a large urban environment they’ll escape to a small town life where everybody is in your business, and everyone has secrets. The secrets are often illegal or immoral.
If a reader lives in a small town, they know everybody is in your business. Gossip circulates fast, and wrongdoing often runs the gauntlet to the people’s court before the judicial system can ‘come to order.’
The parents in my novels send their kids off to school with a kiss on their forehead and are comforted by the thought they’ll be safe, much like in real life. But are they safe? In real life, school crime and school violence occur too often.
In my fictional world, there’s a school marshal watching over the school. He doesn’t always succeed, but after twenty years in the air force, most in special operations, he takes his job quite serious and gives it his all.
So Robin can you share a secret with all of us, who is one of your FAVORITE CHARACTERS AND WHY?
I’m especially fond of Teddy (Mac is also). He’s a quirky and innocent 4th grader. He loves to tell silly jokes. He mostly doesn’t care what people think of him. But he’s growing up and as kids approach the tween years (between youth and teenager) it becomes harder to ignore the harsh words and ridicule from mean kids.
Jacks: I’ve got to say, I already like Teddy too.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU:
What is the name of YOUR UPCOMING RELEASE?
The next book is titled Mac. It’s a prequel to book 1 in the School Marshal series. It provides the background and childhood that led the protagonist, Mac, to join the air force. I plan to publish Mac in 2017.
What should people EXPECT TO SEE FROM YOU in the future?
I’m enjoying the school marshal path. I have several more stories to come in this series.
Do you have any EVENTS COMING UP and what’s your MAIN FOCUS RIGHT NOW?
I’m not scheduled for any appearance. The limelight isn’t something I relish. Plus writing is my focus at this time. There are many stories swirling in my head I’d like to put on paper.
What are you MOST EXCITED ABOUT?
Watching a story develop is super fun. The indie publishing process was a challenge I actually enjoyed. The learning curve is massive and I’m certain I don’t know what I don’t know. Learning excited me.
AND
Improving my craft is my primary objective. I don’t want to just write stories; I want to write good stories.

Today, we have a treat for you SBC readers, here’s a blurb of UNKNOWN THREAT:
READ YOUR COPY OF UNKNOWN THREAT
UNKNOWN THREAT
Cole ‘Mac’ MacKenna is a man in transition. He spent 20 years as a pararescueman in an elite special ops group with the U.S. Air Force. After two decades of action-packed missions, he does a friend a favor. He takes a school marshal position at a prestigious drug-infested public school to find the drug source. Soon enough, his former life of loaded weapons and death-defying rescues has been replaced by arrogant parents, self-serving politicians, and questionable employees.
When a well-connected parent abuses one of Mac's students, he springs into action like the good old days. Unfortunately for Mac, meddling with the rich can have deadly consequences.
WHAT'S BEING SAID ABOUT IT:
UNKNOWN THREAT is a mystery/thriller novel that features riveting suspense and compelling characters. If you like the hard-boiled writing of Lee Child, then you'll love Robin Lyons' debut novel.
