MEET THE AUTHOR
FEATURED AUTHOR: B.E. VAN DE VEIRE
Welcome SBC readers to another riveting interview. I’m Royal and I will be sharing with you guys my interview with the charming and talented writer B.E. Van de Veire. Here is what she had to say to SBC when we sat down for our recent interview.
First question for you B.E., what GENRE DO YOU WRITE in?
This has become a trick question for me depending upon who I ask. I have heard NA (New Adult) to Women's Fiction, Romance to fiction. So, I shall simply say, I write the affections of the heart.
I like your classification. (Royal)
What PEN NAME can our readers find you under?
At this time, I only write under B.E. Van de Veire.
What is one thing that you WANT US TO KNOW ABOUT you B.E.?
I love getting to know people but can be incredibly shy.
Well we are glad that you came over to SBC to let our readers get to know you. (Royal)
So B.E. can you tells us, outside of writing what are some of YOUR OTHER INTERESTS?
I'm always up for an impromptu concert in my car or in the shower, I love to dance but have no talent for holding a rhythm and I am normally laughing at myself or with my sister.
That’s great. I know I too have been known to throw the impromptu concert. *winks* (Royal)
Now let me ask you B.E., what should someone EXPECT WHEN READING YOUR STORIES?
My readers can expect to enjoy a new twist on history in an engaging story. I wanted to write something that paralleled the classical style of writing. When I read the classics, I lose a part of myself in them but find a new piece of myself. In my stories you won't know where they are going but hopefully you will enjoy the ride.
I’m sure we will. Can’t wait to check them out. (Royal)
Where did you draw your INSPIRATION from for your CURRENT WORK B.E.?
From my love of history and hunger to better understand relationships.
I have to ask, are there any TRACES OF YOUR PERSONALITY in your main character B.E.?
I didn't think so but a few of my family members have mentioned small quirks that are mine in several of my characters as well as the main.
What is one of your FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THIS SERIES?
That I was able to work in my fascination and love of Russian history and culture.
That sounds interesting. I bet you have done a wonderful job incorporating it into your stories. (Royal)
We would like to know, who is one of your FAVORITE CHARACTERS IN YOUR STORY and why?
I would say Mark, he is the one person we all wish we had in our lives.
What is SOMETHING you would say is SPECIFIC TO you as an AUTHOR?
I live to be kind... just ask my enemies. :P
That’s awesome. (Royal)
We wanted to know more about the TWITTER EVENT you host #MissMuseMe.
#MissMuseMe is an interesting story. I didn’t really find her, she found me. I wanted to interact with more writers and the name just rolled off my tongue and there she was. I am a muse as are all of us. It was never about vanity. It is about the blockades that exist everywhere in life and how you can find your muse in the most unusual places. All you have to do is calm down and notice. You will be amazed as you succumb and go with the flow as they say. If you just let yourself be inspired, you will never have to look for inspiration. I started #MissMuseMe to create writing prompts for the many talented writers on Twitter. I love to read other people's work and understand their perspective. The 14O character limit forces succinct and well thought out sentences. It is a lot of fun.
That was a neat idea. I’m sure our readers (if they are on twitter) will love to join you during the event. (Royal)
So B.E., we noticed that you have two degrees in History and Behavioral Science. Do your degrees INFLUENCE YOUR WRITING?
My passion is history, but I also love to study behavioral science and understand people and what makes them “tick”. This also helps me make my characters more in depth and real.
That’s a great way to do it. (Royal)
I couldn’t help but notice on your website www.bevandeviere.com that you had a QUOTE FROM YOU that said “My words are daggers disguised as flowers.” Do you mind helping us understand what this quote means to you?
My Words Are Daggars: I think all words carry weight and with so many online platforms I think we are becoming desensitized at times. I try not to waste words. Sometimes we all come across as harsh or indifferent, but a bit more attention on the words we are using can go a long way.
So true. I think we could all learn from this. (Royal)
B.E. we would like to know, when and how did you begin your LOVE AFFAIR WITH ROMANCE?
I have been in love with romance for as long as I can remember. I am a passionate and compassionate person by nature and wear it on my sleeve. Relationships are important and romantic relationships are complicated, like a story with a bunch of subplots. If two people do not put the time in to figure out these subplots, their story ends and the relationship doesn't exist.
That’s a good analogy for love and relationships. (Royal)
You have stated B.E. that Gone with the Wind is one of your favorite books. In what way do you bring the MOMENTS LOST ON THE PAGES OF THE CLASSIC INTO YOUR CONTEMPORARY WORKS?
I have found the connection to be more the style of writing and the writer's ability to leave pieces to the imagination for the reader yet still offer clarity in the scene.
Interesting take away. It is a style that doesn’t appear that much in contemporary pieces. Can’t wait to see how it appears in your works. (Royal)
So B.E., what do you think is the MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU WANT YOUR READERS TO DO when they read your work?
For me personally, it’s more important to have my novel enjoyed and remembered by one person than read and forgotten by thousands. I have so many stories to tell and my goal is to write them well enough people will not only want to read them but can't help but remember them as well.
How would you describe your WRITING PROCESS? And what is the BEST PART OF WRITING for you?
It’s a release, my imagination is sheer chaos and the outlet of writing silences the noise. But I love to make people feel and inspire emotion in others. That’s how we know we are alive; we feel.
B.E., can you tells us who some of your FAVORITE AUTHORS are?
C.S. Lewis, Carolyn Keene, Emily Bronte, Vladimir Nabokov and Leo Tolstoy. I recently have become a huge fan of Christina Strigas, Nicholas Trandahl and Kirk Diedrich.
Impressive list. (Royal)
What is a quote(s)/ advice that you live by?
I live by a lot of advice but two of my favorites are:
"Be yourself, everyone else is taken." Oscar Wilde
"If you can dream it, you can do it." Walt Disney
Really great things to live by. (Royal)
B.E., Can you give a TIP TO ASPIRING AUTHORS that are reading this right now?
Write every single day, write what you love, write for yourself and never let anyone convince you that you can't do this.
Also, take your time finding betas (readers). The better the betas, the better the edits.
Awesome tips. This is definitely a key step in publishing your work. (Royal)
Alright B.E. we are winding down the interview now. But before you go, can you tell us the name of your UPCOMING RELEASE?
On Thin Ice
And what should people EXPECT to see from you IN THE FUTURE B.E.?
Sequels to OTI (On Thin Ice) and a variety of other works.
What are you MOST EXCITED ABOUT?
Seeing someone reading my book besides my mother. :)
Our readers here at SBC like to contact the authors we interview. Where can they REACH YOU ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
TWITTER
FACEBOOK
And lastly, where is the BEST PLACE for our readers to keep up to date on your NEW RELEASES?
Best place is my website right now. As things progress, you can find the updates on my website. :)
