SILVER BEANS CAFE THE ULTIMATE BOOK CLUB

silver beans café the ultimate book club

MEET THE AUTHOR

FEATURED AUTHOR: DON ALESI

Picture
Hello and welcome to Silver Beans Café. My name is Royal, and I am one of the interviewers here at SBC. Today I am happy to be sitting down with NON-FICTION/MEMOIRS author DON ALESI!
Thank you, DON ALESI, for being here today. Let’s just jump right into the interview. Let's start out by GETTING TO KNOW YOU. What GENRES DO YOU WRITE, DON?
I write non fiction/memoirs. Most of what I write is about various parts of my life. Family and friends say that I'm a pretty good story teller and I should write about them in a book. I will let the reader decide if my stories are interesting or not.
What are the TITLES OF YOUR BOOKS?

The title of my first book is "Letting People Down" Memories of a cemetery worker.
I have also had two of my stories about flying my vintage Cessna published in books. "The Cessna 120/140 story book" and "Oshkosh Memories"

Outside of writing what are SOME OF YOUR OTHER INTERESTS?

Beside writing, my other passion is flying my 1947 Cessna 140 all over the country with my wife and meeting people at small town airports.

Sounds like fun! (Royal)

Let’s talk more ABOUT THE BOOKS. Specifically, CAN YOU SHARE MORE DETAILS about “Letting People Down?”

"Letting People Down" Memories of a Cemetery worker is about my thirty years of working at a Cemetery. Things do not always go as planned such as when Hawks attacked Doves at a grave side funeral. It didn't end well for the Doves.

What is SOMETHING UNIQUE THAT YOU BRING TO YOUR WRITING?

I try to write like I talk. I want the reader to feel as if we are in a diner and I am telling that person my story.

My high school English teacher told me that I didn't follow the rules when writing papers and that I had a unique writing style. She told me never to change.

What is ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT WRITING?

The best thing I love about writing is being able to relive and remember things about my past even if some of them are painful or unpleasant.

What is one of the BEST PIECES OF ADVICE that you received OR A QUOTE THAT YOU LIVE BY?

My late father said to me; "Dreams can really come true if you are willing to work hard and do it honestly." He was so right in many ways.
The best piece of advice to anyone is, "Everyone should write their memoir." If not for yourself then for your family. Trust me. They want to know.

Agreed, that is true! (Royal)

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU?
What is the NAME OF YOUR UPCOMING RELEASE and WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE EXPECT to see from you in the future?

I'm working on a book  about my 25 years of flying my Cessna airplane. It's called, "Flying LiL Gremlin." Memories of a small plane pilot. I want it to be a light hearted version of John Steinbeck's "Travels With Charley" In search of America. I'm hoping to have it ready by next summer. I'm also working on Volume II of "Letting People Down"

So Don, are there any EVENTS ON THE HORIZON?

I will be giving a talk about my book and Cemetery work at the Dundee Township Historical Society in mid October.. I was very surprised at the positive response my book has gotten. I didn't think there would be much of an interest in an obscure topic like Cemetery work.
