I got the chance to chat with the very talented and lovely author LEXI MILES this week. It was privilege to have a sit down with her and ask her some more questions. Here is what she said…
Hi, Lexi, welcome back. We spoke to you before and just want to know if you can you update us on WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH YOU NOW?
Thanks for having me. I’d be happy to fill you in. I am excited to say that I have a couple new romance books set for release over the next couple of months, a few Author TAKEOVERS (Facebook), and blog tour events (#13Winterviews and Multiple Websites). Also, I am happy to announce that I am about to launch my YouTube Channel with lots of content. So stay tuned it’s going to be fun!

Lexi, can you refresh us, what GENRES DO YOU WRITE? WHY?
I have written in various genres; however, my favorite is sweet and sexy contemporary romance. It’s my favorite genre to both read and write. Yikes, the WHY I write romance is like a never-ending rabbit hole for me. Let me just keep it simple and say that romantic love is one of the sweetest gifts that we are given in life. For as long as I can remember, I have adored all the things related to it: smiling over the first ‘I love you’ shared, listening to a moving song that makes you grin widely, dog-earring that stirring chapter that gives you tingles or gets you biting your lip, watching a sunset and sighing pleasantly thinking of being inside of that special person’s arms, that warm and oh-my-goodness WOW feeling as you are taking in a romcom or TV show, and…the list continues. Told you, it’s a rabbit hole. (Giggles.) Okay, so what I am saying is that I am a giant romantic mush, so naturally, since I love writing I had to write beautiful sweet amazing romance. (giggles)

What is one of the MOST REWARDING ASPECTS OF WRITING?
Everything! (Giggles) Okay, to narrow the scope a bit, I would say that I love being able to create a fun world of love. It’s fun to give someone a vacation that they can hold in your hand and love story you can hold in your heart.
It’s time to spill your secrets. What are a few fun things THAT PEOPLE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU, Lexi?
I love to cook, I am a freelance writer/editor, I am a talker, and I enjoy a good Netflix binge! Also, I love long walks on the treadmill aka working out, I am addicted to pinning cute clothes and all things fun on Pinterest, I am a Youtuber, and I love making people smile! Wait, there is more. I am open to learn, and to building my knowledge on any subject, I am a burgers and fries girl, I believe that everyone is special, and I am a singer. Sweh, think I got it all. (Giggles) All in all, I believe in making every day fun!
What’s your PROCESS OF SELECTING NAMES for characters?
I use the very scientific method of eeny, meeny, miny, mo. Ha ha! Ok just kidding, for my leading ladies I usually write Chick (or something basic) as their name for the first part of the book and then go back and think of a name that best suits that character once I have gotten to know them. The guys usually start with a hot name that I wanted to use. Something unique, fresh, and hot guy growl worthy like Wolf (Mix Matched) or a strong rugged name like Cliff (Assisting Love) or Roger (Convince Me) because it reminds me of all those good old fashion names I love like (Christian, Brenden, Bruce, Collin, and great names like that).
What is one BEHIND THE SCENES thing that happened WHILE WRITING one of your books?
I have been writing and reworking PRIVATE LESSONS for a while. I have a lot of versions of that one. It has even branched off to become a few different books as well as an entire series about private security. But the funniest thing is how many times it has changed how it has started. At one point it started in a small neighborhood with her looking at possible new residents, somewhere along the line the start occurred on an airplane with a hot mile high encounter, and now in the final one set for release soon it has evolved to a gym where she is receiving her first private lesson in self-defense. It was quite the journey. Ha ha! The core has stayed the same, Ryan is a woman putting her life back together after a rotten and highly abusive relationship. Ryan finds that her new guy Jimmy (every version of him) is just the man to help her do that. It’s really a story about growth and how beautiful and healing a great relationship can be. All the while, they push each other to be the best versions of themselves.
Okay, let’s shift gears a bit and talk more ABOUT THE BOOKS. Where did you draw your INSPIRATION from FOR YOUR CURRENT WORK?
Good question. (HaHa) Okay, let me backtrack for a second and think about it. My ideas come from all over the place.
ASSISTING LOVE was inspired by my tendency to be a bit of a workaholic. I wrote about it and explored some of the reasons as to why I worked so hard. There was a point when I needed a serious change to doing something I loved, and not just something that made me good money. That’s all in there as well as a few other growing points for me. In addition to all of that, I use to keep some pretty late hours at the office, and so the mind does wonder, and sometimes it’s to naughty thoughts. That book talks about it. (Grins.)
THE MOONLIGHT ORDER SERIES was birthed out of my love for vampires. I’ve adored them since I was itty bitty, so I wanted to write a lore that was unique and all its own. One that had never been told, and so the series was born. (Giggles.)
HER SEXY BOSS and the series about office romance came from looking at a picture and then letting the mind run free with playful and sexy thoughts.
FANTASY LEAGUE popped into my mind because I was tired of people acting like love doesn’t get more fun as you get to know your partner more. The new stuff is thrilling, but getting to know your lover on a deeper level is something that quick encounters can touch. There is a certain trust and fun that can happen when you really open up to someone that you love in every way. In addition to all of that, I was hearing all about the fantasy football and other game leagues and thought it would be fun to cross that with a fantasies for couples. The idea of adult play is quite fun to explore.
What is one of your FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THE CURRENT SERIES you are working on?
I am working on the Fire Fighter Series right now. I would have to say, thinking up clever ways to put my characters in a critical jam to make the fire thing work is the fun part right now.
What should someone EXPECT WHEN READING any of your titles?
First to fall in love and enjoy the hotness that comes along with it. You should expect to see that being in love gives you a unique strength that helps you to navigate whatever you are facing in life (good, bad, and the crazy). Love helps you evolve into your best self. And, that love is really fun and is lasting! That life is fun to share with the person who really gets you. Despite what has been said before, love gets more fun with your partner in life. That hot sex is a good thing! LOL And the rest you will just have to read in the books! (wink)
Any traces of YOUR PERSONALITY IN YOUR MAIN CHARACTER?
I think that a piece of me is in every character that I write. Maybe not the same piece, but there is a pinch of Lexi in each of the leading ladies.
Who is one of your FAVORITE CHARACTERS AND WHY?
I love all of my characters. If not, I would scratch them and write a new one. (HaHa) Silliness aside, the first one that popped into my mind is Clair De Lune (from the ORDER OF MOONLIGHT). I am just beginning to write the next installment in the series NEW ORDER, and right now I am spending a lot of time thinking about how she thinks. She is kind of a badass, and those characters always are fresh and exciting in my opinion.
Who is one of your FAVORITE AUTHORS?
Hands down it has got to be Dr. Seuss. I know it sounds innocent, but as a kid, that’s when I first got it. I got how powerful a book can be. Looking back to this day, I still get something profound from his words. So he remains one of my favorite authors. Judy Blume made a huge impact on me with TIGER EYES. I really connected with that book and all that I have read by her. Cohen has some amazingly thought-provoking books. I read his book and get something new every time. He has the rare ability to be able to evolve and be relevant each time as if he knows exactly what is happening in your life at that moment. I also enjoy a good Chloe Quinn novel. She unfolds a book in ways that make you think, and you have to pay attention. Everything in her books have a purpose. You feel smarter after reading them from vocabulary to things that make you think. Fun reads that are also sexy as all get out are by Dani Raine and Brickley Jules. I totally enjoy their books.
What is one thing that you CAN’T DO WELL? What is one thing that YOU ARE GOOD AT?
You had to ask that. (LOL) Okay, so I would say that the ability to skateboard alludes me. (giggles) I have dusted my butt a few times, and I have learned that it’s not my gift. I am sure I could go many ways here, but I will be honest with the first thing that popped into my head. The something I am good at has to be talking. There are others, but I really like to wag my gums with my friends. (giggles)
What is a FUN INTERACTIONS that you have had WITH ONE OF YOUR READERS?
That’s a cool question. Hmm, all of my interactions have been amazing. One that sticks out was when a reader loved my soap opera HEAT ZONE. I write it every week, and when I didn’t, I got an email gently reminding me that they didn’t see it. I have not missed it since. It was cool to see how dialed in my readers are. That was fun. Another experience that to emerge was an interaction I had with one of my VIP newsletter readers. They told me that the weekly hellos we share really made their week. Putting a smile on peoples’ faces through the things that I write is what I am all about. So that was really cool.
