MEET THE AUTHOR
FEATURED AUTHOR: P.S. WINN
Hello and welcome to Silver Beans Café. My name is Jacks, and I am one of the interviewers here at SBC. Today I am honored to be sitting down with FICTION author P.S. WINN!
Thank you, P.S. WINN, for being here today. Let’s just jump right into the interview. Let's start out by GETTING TO KNOW YOU. What GENRE DO YOU WRITE?
That is a great question and could take a while to answer. I have four happy, rhyming books for preschool and early readers. Teaching children to love books is an amazing gift, and I hope mine do that. I write fun stories, like tall tales. They were intended for young adults, but adults seem to love them. I also have an adventure series for young adults that takes twins to parallel worlds. The short story collections are, for the most part, spiritual crossed with supernatural. I even have one book of poetry. The thirty-seven novels that make up the rest of my fifty books cross genres. I have science fiction, science fact, conspiracy, horror and a lot of supernatural suspense. I am fascinated by Parallel Worlds and sneak that theme into many books in a variety of ways.
I love hearing that. I read a bit of your books, and now I am hooked. Haha (Jacks)
Speaking of those books, what are the TITLES OF YOUR BOOKS and what your official AUTHOR NAME?
All the books are under the pen name P.S. Winn. Two of the books are actually my husband’s cartoon drawings turned into adult comic books. FORETOLD was the 1st book published in October 2012. Here are the others, hope you are ready for this. VOICES, OBLIGATIONS, TUNNELS, CAPERNICIOUS, B,A, 47, PACIFIC PASSAGE, SUPPRESSION, LIES IN SHADOWS. PHASES, MYSTIC VALLEY, THE NEW MOON KILLER, HEALINGS, SUPERSTITION CANYON, COLLISIONS, VIEWINGS, AT HIDDEN LAKE, PARALLEL ADVENTURES (SERIES OF 3 BOOKS) A GRADUAL DECLINE, JUDGMENTS, OF JEEBIES AND JOURNEYS, INTO THE DOORWAYS, WHITMORE HILLS, TRANSPIRATIONS, CORRELATIONS, REALITIES, PRESENCE, JUST DIVINE, DISTURBANCE AND DESTRUCTION, DEADLY AFFLICTIONS, FATAL PRETENSE, BELIEVINGS, UNVEILINGS, SCRUTINY AND PERDISH INN.
Wow, that’s great! All of the titles are so intriguing, (Jacks)
P.S., outside of writing what are some of YOUR OTHER INTERESTS?
I love to draw and create crafts in various forms. I like being creative, and my home is filled with the pictures I draw and paint. I like to add my poems to a picture I draw and then frame them.
Okay, switching gears again, let’s move back to talking ABOUT THE BOOKS.
ANY TRACES OF YOUR PERSONALITY in your main character?
I think I leave a piece of myself in all characters. Even when I write a villain into the story, I tend to draw from my own character flaws.
Where do YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM for your books?
Anywhere and everywhere. I think I look at the world a bit differently. Seeing a hill, I wonder about secrets buried inside and who may have placed them there. An empty train car becomes the home of a werewolf. Of course, my crazy dreams are an unending source of material. For me, it is that place between being awake and asleep that holds volumes of stories. I looked it up, and it is called. Hypnagogia, a neurological phenomenon.
What is ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT WRITING?
Oh my gosh, making stuff up. How cool is that? The best thing is stretching the truth just enough to be plausible yet supernaturally linked. I have written one non-fiction book based on a true story. Writing “Suppression” was so much harder than a fiction book, but it was a story I felt compelled to tell of an inventor silenced because the patented invention cut pollution while making cheap energy. Definitely something big oil backed government didn’t want the public knowing about.
What is one of the BEST PIECES OF ADVICE THAT YOU RECEIVED or a quote that you live by?
“Live, Laugh, Love.” I think life is hard and we are handed so many rough situations to deal with that just getting through a day sometimes takes so much strength. If you can laugh at life and surround yourself with others that do the same, things are so much better. I have a book called “Heartfelts” that are short stories of what life can hand us and how to try and deal with the harsh realities with optimism.
Love this! Excellent advice! (Jacks)
What is one thing that you would like to say TO SOMEONE THINKING ABOUT WRITING?
If you like to write, then do it. Being an author is not about making big bucks, the journey is about sharing the stories with others. If one reader tells you that your story touched them or made a difference in their life, you have done your job well. I had a reader tell me she read one of my children’s books aloud when her daughter had trouble during labor. As she read, her daughter’s vitals became normal, and a healthy baby was born. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Agreed, that’s so amazing! (Jacks)
What’s NEXT FOR YOU?
I am at this time dealing with those harsh realities of life I was just speaking of. My spine is degenerating from top to bottom. I am dealing with a lot of pain and trying to find innovative ways to transfer words from my mind to the page without writing or typing. I have written all my books longhand, before typing them out, so that is hard. LOL actually impossible. When I figure all the new technology, I have a dozen books floating in my mind to share.
Thank you and keep writing because we all need your words! (Jacks)
What is the name of YOUR UPCOMING RELEASE?
The book I hope to finish and release in 2018 is called ”PERSPECTIVES” and is a never-ending journey of one woman trying to change her life at the age of 58. Jen’s Journeys take her into mystery , adventure, and danger. Each trip will be another book in the series.
What should people EXPECT TO SEE FROM YOU IN THE FUTURE?
I hope more books, but I also spend a lot of time reading other author’s books. I am a top ten reader on Goodreads and like to share new authors I find along with old favorites I have enjoyed.
Any EVENTS you want to share that you will appear at IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
I haven’t done any of these, mostly selling the books and shouting them out on social media sites.
We may eventually move into doing blog tours. If so, we’d love to have you, you would be one of our first calls! (Jacks)
What are you MOST EXCITED ABOUT?
Life! I have learned to take each day as it comes. Between my husband’s bad health, my own and the tragedy of losing two children, I have found life happens and we are all just along for the incredible ride. Despite stumbling blocks thrown at me, I have learned to roll with the flow and just enjoy writing my books, reading others and keeping family and friends in the loop and close to my heart.
